Hey friend,
No “Voice Message from a Friend” episode this week—I’ve already spent plenty of time editing for another video. I try to stay mindful of screen time, balancing editing with actually being outside and enjoying the journey. Still, there’s a lot I’d love to share with you. Here’s what’s new:
Finished a New Video
Subtitles Experiment
Film Inspiration
Considering Widescreen
Road Trip Update

1. Finished a New Video
I finally wrapped up a longer version of my Balkan road trip video. Funny story—I started editing this ages ago, back when I had a proper setup at home with a desk, big screen, and podcast mike. But with that perfect setup, I never finished it.
Now, with my laptop balanced on my steering wheel and only a few evenings to edit, I managed to get it done. It’s simple, stripped-down—just raw footage, no music, no voice-over. But somehow, that feels right. If you want to see what I put together 👇
I’m happy to finally share this piece and close out my Balkan journey, even as I dive into a new one. If you’re new here, you can binge all my episodes, or catch up on the full story.
Fun fact: this project even landed me on the cover of Sabato magazine last spring.
2. Subtitles Experiment: I Need Your Thoughts
For my video series, I’ve been toying with the subtitle placement. Right now, they’re more in the middle of the screen, but I’m wondering if they’d be better at the bottom. Subtle but still visible. What do you think? Do you like them in the centre, or should I move them down a bit?
3. Fueling Up on Good Films
Lately, I’ve made a pact with myself to avoid the usual noise online and focus only on quality. So, I’ve been rewatching films that really inspire me visually, this week: There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. These films keep me grounded in what I want to create: a style that’s honest, layered, and a bit timeless. It’s been helping me stay clear about the kind of work I want to put out there
.
4. Thinking About Widescreen
I’ve been tempted to try out widescreen instead of my usual 4:3 square format. My videos have become so landscape-heavy that a wider frame just feels like a natural shift. And honestly, I think my compositions might come to life even more that way.
Still from the next episode:
5. Road Trip Update
Right now, I’m around San Sebastian, Spain, dipping into the first mountains of this journey. It’s been slow, immersive travel so far, but with the weather taking a rough turn, I’m wondering if I should pick up the pace toward Morocco.

And, as a small gift: many of you asked about my Fujifilm colors and recipes, which I use to achieve a specific look straight from the camera. You can find them here:
